HAPPY
BIRTHDAY Dr. Seuss
10th Annual Read Across America
In 1957 Theodor Seuss Geisel, Dr. Seuss, answered a
challenge from author John Hersey to “write a story first graders wouldn’t be
able to put down.” The results was his
now famous The Cat in the Hat. His use of rhyme made this and his
other books an effective tool for teaching young children the basic skills they
need to read.
On Friday, March 2, 2007, Dr. Seuss’ birthday, the National Education
Association will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of this pioneering
work of literature with the 10th Annual Read Across America. Read Across America focuses the
country's attention on how important it is to motivate children to read in
addition to helping them master basic skills.
