Global Action Week is
fast approaching!
Global Action Week 2008 is fast approaching and will
see the launch of activities to promote universal education.
From 21–27 April, teachers' unions around the world will join together to
campaign for education rights under this year's theme: "Quality Education
to End Exclusion."
If your union or school has not yet planned any activities to mark Global
Action Week, please consider what contribution you could make. Together,
teachers, students and educational activists can send a powerful message to
governments and policy makers worldwide.
EI has already distributed the funds and resources available for 2008 to unions
that registered for Global Action Week. However, if you are short on time and
resources, there are still many simple ways you can make a big impact during
Global Action Week.
Wondering what would work best in your school or community? To get ideas, check
out the Education International's Activity Report on Global Action Week 2007 at
the link below. The report contains summaries of the activities carried out
during Global Action Week 2007 by coalitions of teachers' unions, students and
parents associations, NGOs, local and national government representatives and
education activists.
EI supports its members who are organising events for Global Action Week and
urges all affiliates to become part of this global movement for education
rights. Engage with your local politicians and involve them in the World's
Biggest Lesson on 23 April 2008. You can plan exhibitions, student competitions
and fun walks. Let us know how they went and together we can campaign for
Education for All both during Global Action Week and throughout the year. It is
important to report on your activities to EI so that your contribution will
appear in next year's report.
Global Action Week material can be downloaded from the Global Campaign for
Education website and can be used and/or adapted in your national activities.
